ADBCC (A Different Booklist Cultural Centre) – The People’s Residence Press Release
Monday, November 29, 2021 (Toronto, ON): This holiday season, add Giving Tuesday to the top of your list and give the gift that keeps on giving – Give the gift of community.
We are excited to highlight one of our city’s cultural community hubs. Part of the historic Ed Mirvish Village opening Fall 2022, A Different Booklist Cultural Centre (ADBCC), also known as The People’s Residence, does far more than bring you a list of culturally diverse books. The Bathurst and Bloor community helped shape what this cultural center is today and continues to impact Toronto by infusing it with the arts, education, and employment resources. It’s more than a place to connect. It’s a place to grow.
ADBCC – The People’s Residence is known for its culturally relevant programs such as the Emancipation Day Train Ride, the Welcome to Blackhurst walking tours, and even Black Cake Day. Meet Itah Sadu, Managing Director and founder of the organization to tell us a bit more about the Champions Challenge this Giving Tuesday.
“We invite the public to buy a virtual brick during our Champions Challenge this Giving Tuesday”, said Sadu. The Champions Challenge is part of the “Buy a Brick ” campaign that allows anyone to purchase a virtual brick in support of their local Champion who are competing with other local Champions to sell the most amount of bricks. “Each brick allows you to cement your legacy by permanently engraving your name on our digital legacy wall in our new home,” added Sadu.
ADBCC is a not-for-profit organization whose mandate is to use arts and culture to teach, educate, develop skills, connect and celebrate the rich heritage while building economic power within the African and Caribbean Canadian communities. Funds raised through the buy a brick program will support the infrastructure build as well as programming and operations costs to run events and programs like Windows to Opportunity that supports the positive development of Black youth through mentorship and professional artists and more.
So, this holiday season why not give the gift of community and memorialize a loved one in support of a great cause!
