Born and raised by a community of Chinese Canadian activists in Toronto/Tkaronto, Emily Chan has worked in the popular education, environmental justice and workers’ rights movements in Toronto and New York City. An elementary teacher since 2007, she shares her love and enthusiasm for social justice, collaboration, and the transformative power of student voice.

MOSA MCNEILLY is a visual artist, performer and ritualist, researcher, educator and editor. Mosa McNeilly sees her work as part of a canon of Black women artists, scholars, activists, and spiritual practitioners concerned with social justice, cultural reclamation, and freedom. In her art education practice, she seeks to foster African cultural literacy, cultivate Black agency, and nurture Black self-love. One of the 100 Accomplished Black Canadian Women of 2020, Mosa is a graduate of OCADU, the School of the Toronto Dance Theatre, and holds an MES from York University

LaShawn Murray

LaShawn Murray, MS, BHSc is a Black critical theorist and community-based researcher exploring spatial patterning of social, health and educational experiences to understand the implications of racism and inform policies and interventions. LaShawn approaches this work with an equity mindset and collaborates with researchers, educators and epidemiologists in both Canada and the United States. Herein, her engagement acts on her commitment to amplify community voices as well as leverage information technology and mixed methodology to advance equity and address racial and social injustices within urban communities. LaShawn is currently a Policy Analyst with the Peel District School Board (PDSB). In 2011, LaShawn was honoured with a Harry Jerome Award for Leadership.

Mark combines his passion for music and sports, with a consistent spirit of social activism and a life-long commitment to educate, empower, and unite. Mark’s career as a visual communicator, graphic designer, and painter has spanned over three decades, and he continues to present a variety of works that illustrate the history of Black athletes, entertainers, and public figures. He studied formally through the Interpretive Illustration program at Sheridan College in Oakville.

His artwork has been exhibited at Nuit Blanche, The Spoke Club, Society of African Canadian Artists, The Sport Gallery, The Gladstone Hotel, Toronto Design Xchange, Easter Seals Kids, DeRo Foundation, CBC Radio to name a few.
